2020.09.03 08:09 deputy141 The 4 Spheres of Gaming in India

Before starting on this I did some research but even if I am wrong please correct me In India gaming is dependent on these 4 and defines it's state as broken as it is now 1.Industry:
Software(basically game Devs):From what we see most of these are either Android/IOS ones or online games one(games2win types). How many people even know about any pc game developers in India.Studying in engineering college I have seen people transition from gave Dev to plain old android or web dev due to its such low scope in India.Of course I ain't saying make a AAA title at starting but I still think possibilities for India in gaming development is way more than any country. And what do most android game Devs make is either rummy ,teen Patti or dream 11 type games where you have to use money or Chota bheem games or just simply copies of temple run or Pubg.We can do way better with the hardware present in mobiles now than this bs
Hardware:I see this as where the problem begins. For people in India owning a gaming pc or a console is a LUXURY where the only ones that own them are people who buy them through their salaries or some parents who might buy one for them(especially pcs) and authorities don't find it profitable to lower taxes because it's a luxury good .Wheres MAKE IN INDIA in this if people still buy electronics from other countries because it costs way less to them. Its just contributing to their economy and the govt still thinks gaming is for the wealthy. On the other hands ,smartphones are something now everyone have(especially after jio) so why not same for consoles or pc parts.Due to this game dev companies won't invest in production in India because people already pay enough for hardware that they prefer pirating games rather than paying for it.And the pubg ban ain't affecting mobiles much cuz there are still tons of mobile gamers for brands to cater
2.Professional Gamers(eSports):I know there exist teams for csgo and Dota but how much have these influenced other people to get into eSports ?A lot.In PC ?Nope. And CSGO and Dota are games everyone was able to afford and play on their normal pcs but what about newer games like COD,Rainbow 6 ,pubg pc or Fortnite. The majority playing these games are either working or studying in colleges. They don't have space to think about it and would rather pursue tech jobs than something like eSports. For once I thought that eSports players in PUBGM might transition on pc also if given time to develop but the recent ban already shot the chance(not criticising the ban any ways,It was necessary for national security but I think authorities might have considered the livelihoods of those players before banning it so suddenly like the demonetization)
3.Youtubers/Streamers(whatever you call them):These have the crucial role of promoting a game and by far this group has most influenced gaming community in India .There were time when people didn't watch anything other than carryminatis gaming streams but now streaming games on YouTube has become a option even after the PUBGM ban(Some guy on YouTube trending makes Minecraft videos and get millions of views which I still don't understand why ) but there still a mentality in each YouTuber as far as I saw that PUBGM=views(paisa) and obviously that would also be how I would think I was in their place and so we can't do anything about this for now.And how many know about Twitch? The best streaming platform there ever is but still we get nothing from it.And also my personal opinion is that those stream chats are filled with people promoting their channels or BINOD like spams that twitch would be just spoiled becuz of this.Lets see how the new era of Indian gaming YouTubers start.
4.Casual/Gharelu Gamers:It's just - 1."game to bacche khelte he":Ye kis research me likha he Shi batao 2."padh le isme Kuch nhi rakha he":Yes ofc make my life shi* 3."Aankhe kharab Hoti he":Like watching TVs while sleeping is better than moving fingers and applying your mind while we do almost the same 4."It's spread violence".Every form of entertainment is the exact same.Nothing is normal in them. That doesn't mean you stop everything.I wouldn't go around swinging a sword or shooting arrows if some mythological Indian show showed it which people advice others to watch
And it ends with "jab khud kamayega tab khareed lio".I didn't have a console till I could pay for it myself . This is all my experience but I think it won't be any different for anyone.Indian culture is just showing off how elite your child is compared to others and when someone will say "he is a gamer" everyone thinks he is just useless. The amount that parents prevent us from gaming just bounces back as it just makes us more eager to play more but it's a custom to do it so it's keeps going on
Each of these 4 spheres(industry,eSports,YouTube, causal) just fCK or get fcked back to back and thats how Indian gaming community woRKs
That's enough.I think I have taken out a lot of my anger. You want to add something, much welcome. If I am wrong in anything, feel free to correct me.I am pretty new here but I sense similar people like me here so wanted to discuss it.I still believe we have a bright future :)

2020.07.24 11:21 FionaLooong How the current pandemic is impacting the mobile game industry

How the current pandemic is impacting the mobile game industry
Whether directly or indirectly, the current global pandemic, the novel COVID-19, has had its effects on virtually all industries out there. In most cases, though, this effect has been adverse, with non-essential businesses halting operations and sending employees home as lockdown is implemented in most places. The mobile gaming industry appears to be the exception from this trend — — it’s experiencing growth at a time where other industries are struggling to survive. The mobile gaming industry all over the world has seen a significant rise in the number of daily active users and the revenues generated. Let’s have a factual discussion on the topic.
What Makes The Gaming Industry So Profitable At A Time Like This?
The quarantine has seen people restricting themselves to their homes in order to wait out the storm that’s been rocking the world. Cooped up inside the confines of their homes, in many cases without the company of others, what can one do to spend time more favorably? You realize that your pastime options are considerably reduced in a situation like this when you are physically cut off from the outside world. After exhausting a whole list of potential activities such as cooking, reading, Exercising, people ultimately always turn to their trusted companions — their cell phones. And the video games on these devices.
As it turns out, mobile games are a perfect time past for a situation like this. They provide a massive blend of entertainment and fun and help fill in the gaps in the social connection that self-isolating has caused. Also, with the constant onslaught of negative news from the outside world, these mobile games help restore some sense of normalcy for a lot of people, providing them an escape and a source of releasing pent up stress, anxiety, and frustration.
The performance of the mobile game market under the Coronavirus situation
The current circumstances make it evident that mobile gaming has become one of the most enjoyable past times. The surge in online traffic, and the accompanying increase in revenues, is proof of this.
We are seeing around 15 lakh people playing our games daily against 11–12 lakh people earlier“, said Tejas Shah, head of revenue and distribution at Games2Win, a major publisher of mobile games in India.
Taking into account the current situation, it’s little wonder that the demographics of the players are changing as well, with an increase in the number of working professionals that download and play these games. Download rates and user numbers have increased by as much as 20–30%. Moreover, the amount of time that people are spending on these mobile games has also increased by quite a bit. This spells out increased profits for gaming companies since users who spend more time on games are more likely to make more in-app purchases to unlock new features.
While it’s still not clear whether these high numbers are here to stay or if this is just a short term consequence of the pandemic, there’s no doubt that it’s proving to be highly profitable for the people in the industry.
As users are spending more time browsing through apps and searching for them, thus adding authority to them and increasing their rankings on relevant keywords.TIP: If you have not done proper app store optimization for your game, do it without wasting any time because organic rankings that can be gained nowadays can help you in getting massive downloads without spending a penny.

Is It A Good Time To Market Your Application?

The rise of mobile gaming applications during a situation like this, when people are forced to stay home, is also a signal for mobile game advertisers. This is a gesture to start paying more attention to the marketing of their games because more daily active users on App Stores and the social media platforms will result in a more targeted reach. No matter how good your optimization is, you still need to market your application via paid advertising because this little push can make your application grow at a rate higher than ever before.
To validate our perception, let’s have a look at some of the interesting stats collected from one of the best advertisement intelligence tools -SocialPeta. The massive database of this tool contains the data of over 770 million ad counts fetched from 69 networks.

https://preview.redd.it/zo2pigxzvrc51.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=b877bdb0656713859cbe790dccd79a31c9ab35fd
You can see from the above screenshot that we are in the App Analytics tool of SocialPeta. The results, in this case, are from the App Store in the category of gaming apps. With the country selected as the United States and ranking filter set to downloads. The last month’s stats are mentioned.
Surprisingly enough, almost each of these gaming applications is getting a considerable increment in their download rankings. The chart clearly indicates that all these games are getting not only higher positions in the App Store, but they are also getting more no of downloads as a result of this increased rank. The blue arrow shows the number of points an app has moved to maintain the current download rank. In this case, the Tower Run — Grow Your Tower has moved seventeen points up to secure the current status, with the total no of downloads as high as 8M.
These facts are not only confined to free games, but the download rankings of paid mobile games are also affected. For instance, you can see that the game Minecraft has moved 4 points above with a total number of downloads ranging to 300000.

https://preview.redd.it/2ih5ql54wrc51.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf92d41c0c7800ad771a6fa8baf3c9040df8391f
In the above screenshot from the dashboard of SocialPeta, you can see the volume of impressions people are generating with the ads for their mobile games. The ad analytics sections of SocialPeta shows the different ads in your industry with a lot of filters to find the best competitors and industry leaders in a category. The user possesses the choice for the selection of category, network, language, Ad format, Theme, Location, Ad Type, Operating System, date range, and sorting order.
In the current scenario, the ad filter for the date is set to the last seven days. A massive volume of advertising can be seen with different types of creatives. If we look at the first ad for Cookie Clickers 2, we can clearly infer that it’s a Carousel ad with 3 million impressions, a time duration of 316 days, and high popularity.
If a marketing officer in the gaming niche is looking for user acquisition, the current is the best time for that. All you require is to be a little more creative and adopted to advertisement intelligence tools like SocialPeta.
The best thing to devise your strategy is to avoid mistakes that others in the industry have made and to follow the proven methods. You need to compare different ad creatives and companies in your category to find the best advertisement strategy that will bring in good ROI. Sometimes people don’t consider the ROI into account and go for more no of downloads. However, more downloads don’t always mean that the application is making a profit. Sometimes the cost is higher than the return on investment. So, if you’re going to make a strategy, think twice before it goes live. Any misleading ad creative or wrong targeting can result in nothing but an abysmal user’s retention rate.
If you’re thinking about finding the best ad creative that will work for you, you can use our proven guide to find the top inspirations in your industry. The first step is finding your competitors and industry’s best advertisers. The next step is to understand their ad creatives deeply, the no of engagements they are getting for different ad sets, their ranking keywords, best working ad format, locations, and demographics. Just to go to SocialPeta, register an account, type your query, and get results based on all data, as mentioned earlier. If we click on any of those results, we can have access to a more detailed version of that ad.

https://preview.redd.it/84qqk458wrc51.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=994c339ba0bf7ec04fac41cb531e7021b24e5b73
As you can construe from the above screenshot that apart from impressions, duration, and popularity, there are some other elements, details, and buttons. You can not only find the network(s), related ads, dimensions, creative type, target countries, and language, but you can also add the game to your collection. If you want, you can download the creative, copy the ad details (such as ad copy, description, and keywords), and get an understanding of their audience.
With all this data in hand, one can easily devise a strategy that will work for them. The more time you will spend in understanding the details, the more are your chances of success. So, if you have got an app that is already launched, or you’re going to start a new application, this is the best time for both the things as market data is proving the facts.
Thus we can say that although this pandemic is affecting most of the businesses around the globe, at the same time, it is supporting some industries. We hope that this healthy discussion has helped you in making most out of this opportunity in disguise; if you’re in the gaming industry.

2020.02.23 20:22 WolfgangTheCoolGuy What happened to Chimpoo?

Barely anyone will remember this game at all unless you possibly also saw the YTV ads in roughly 2011. The game used to be available at http://chimpoo.com until it seemingly DISAPPEARED in September 2015, displaying a message that says "Chimpoo is on vacation and will come back soon!". I doubt it will ever come back to be honest...
This seemingly came out of nowhere. Games2WinMedia (the creators of Chimpoo) have gone absolutely silent about it. I emailed them in November 2018 on the matter and have not gotten a response. No blog post, no information about the shutdown, no nothing.
This game was a big part of my childhood, and I have countless memories of the game. I have lots of nostalgia for it, and I hope we can all work together to find out what happened to it and if it could be revived. The game is incredibly obscure now and has only been discussed a couple dozen times in TINY detail and nobody has ever put an effort into finding it.
If you know anyone that frequently watched YTV in 2011 when the commercials aired or (possibly) knows about the game, PLEASE direct them to this post. You can alternatively message me on Discord by adding me through my tag, which is PTR2☆TM#1510. I mostly want to know what happened to the game, if Games2WinMedia was involved in any lawsuits, violated any child protection laws or laws of any other kind, chose to shut it down due to low interest, why the site is "on vacation", if there are any sequels planned, if Games2WinMedia could BRIEFLY relaunch the game before the discontinuation of Adobe's Flash Player, and anything else relating to the game's closure.
Thanks!

2018.12.02 14:22 noobvnmaker Which VN Engine can allow to publish multiple stories?

Hello everyone, hope you all are having an amazing day!
I am looking for some guidance on VN engines as I have been exploring different engines, but I am not able to figure out which one can let me produce multiple stories into just one executable file.
Now I know big companies like Episode and Choices use their own VN engines what about the games like below? Do each of them below also have their own VN engine? They all contain a bookshelf kind of UI where users can choose the story they like to play.
And If I need to get a custom VN engine built, could someone please throw some light on having an engine built with following features. These are basically the features which I don’t find in other VN engines.
Features
  • Ability to have a library of different stories under different genres. Once user selects a story, it can be downloaded.
  • Support multiple languages which are not Latin.
  • Export executables for multiple OS (Android, iOS, windows, web)
  • An interactable Phone like UI which can be invoked at some scenes where the character is using his phone to chat with someone.
  • Gems
    • Some choices can be only executed if you have required gems.
    • Ability to earn gems by playing more stories.
    • Ability to earn gems by referring friends.
  • Ability to integrate app analytics
  • Ability to show bannepopup Ads
  • Reader pass - To limit the time a user can spend on VN in a particular time duration.

2018.05.28 12:13 rollingdice123456 [TOMT] [Online duel game]

I remember playing an online game maybe 9-10 years ago. It was a duel game where both opponents had their unique weapon. So the objective of the game is basically 'Who can strike first'. You had to wait for the sound of a bell which can ring at any time, before that you couldn't engage your weapons. As soon as the bell rings you fire your weapon, if your opponent (computer program) engages before you do then you lose, if you strike first you win. If you engage your weapons before the bell rings you lose. I vaguely remember there was one character who looked like a Native American and he carried a tomahawk. Another character looked like a cowboy. One of the characters could throw knives. The gameplay of this game reminds me of that scene in Indiana Jones where an Arab man was swinging his sword and Indie shoots him with revolver instantly.
I think the website was miniclip.com games2win but I'm not sure. I could be wrong
